VgaST , the Atari ST-2-VGA Adapter, history :

It's been over 2 years since I designed this interface for the Atari ST , but I didn't see any real need to actually build it.
The design at the time was for a modular system where you could connect different types of video.
But I never spent any more time on it.
And now in one week there have been 2 requests whether I could deliver this 🙂
May I introduce:    VgaST, the Atari ST-2-VGA Adapter!

Of course I would have liked to call it ST2VGA, but since there are already a handful of ST2VGA adapters, I thought it would be better to come up with something else.

VgaST , the Atari ST-2-VGA Adapter, Functionality :

VgaST, my variant of the ST2VGA adapter has the following features:

Connection to the Atari ST is via a 13-pin DIN connector that is plugged into the back of the Atari.
On the back is a HD DB15 (VGA) connector to which a VGA monitor (*1) can be connected.
Switching between Monochrome (HighRes) and Color (Low and Med Res) is done via a switch on the right side.
Sound (*2) can be extracted from the ST via a 3.5 jack connection on the top of the adapter.
The ST2VGA interface comes with a housing, which can be assembled and disassembled into 3 parts.

(*1) Low and Med res can only be used with a 15khz compatible VGA monitor.
(*2) Atari ST has mono sound, the interface therefore offers 2 channels of mono via the jack connection.

VgaST , the Atari ST-2-VGA Adapter, Specifications :

Video High Res (Monochrome):
Any VGA monitor supports High Res Monochrome images coming from this adapter.

Video Low / Med Res (Color) :
These modes are only supported by a VGA monitor that also supports 15KHZ modes, standard VGA monitors cannot handle these.
To test a VGA monitor for 15KHZ support you can consider purchasing this tool

Audio:
This adapter has a stereo 3.5 jack connection, but since the ST is mono, it will output mono sound on both channels.
