VG8020 Premium Composite Scart cable for the VG8XXX MSX family.

The VG8xxx family of Philips MSX home computers has an 8-pin DIN connector as the video output.
This video output only supports a composite signal for connecting a monitor, so it's wise to use a high-quality cable to get the most out of the composite signal.
(To use RGB on these machines, a hardware hack is required.)

The VG8020 Premium Composite Scart cable has the following features:

  • length of +/- 1.50 meters.
  • Scart plug.
  • 8-pin DIN plug.

 

  • Mono audio distributed over 2 channels.
  • Thick, yet very flexible cable.
  • Double-shielded OFC cable.
    (OFC: oxygen-free copper, for reduced loss and therefore improved signal transfer).

VG8020 Composite Video connection for the VG8XXX MSX family.

Unfortunately, the designers of this family of computers made a rookie mistake:
they used the same connector for two different connection types.
Both the video and data recorder connections use an 8-pin DIN connection.
The latter has a 5-volt supply on the plug to control the data recorder's motor.

Warning: Do NOT connect the VG8020 Premium Composite Scart cable to the data recorder port, this is not correct!!!
