Amiga : The quest for the DB-23

Amiga DB-23 plug, the genuine stuff
Amiga, The Quest for the DB-23 !

Somewhere in the distant past someone at Commodore thought that it could be interesting for the amiga to use its own model instead of the already quite standardized 25-pin D-sub plugs.
So that became the D-sub 23 or DB-23, which appeared on the back of the amiga in both male form (video port) and female form (floppy port).
When the amiga pretty much ceased to exist, so did the demand for that special plug.
As a result, today if you want to connect your Gotek Floppydrive Emulator externally you have to do a quest for that holy grail, and if you do find a DB-23 Connector, depending on where and how you find it, you will eventually will pay almost as much for that single plug as for your entire Gotek drive.

There are various ways to connect your gotek to the Amiga Diskdrive port, with one being a bit more spartan than the other.
Think of 3D printers that can print a kind of DB-23 plug, but of course without connection work.
You will then have to order that connection separately and fiddle that into some kind of a plug.
Such plugs do not have a metal shield and whether they can withstand frequent plugging in and out is uncertain.

Another option (which I use myself) is to modify a DB25 plug, roughly you have 2 ways:
Complete rebuild of the plug or Minimal reduction.
The first is quite cumbersome, and the question is whether you can see any of it when the plug is plugged into the back of the amiga.

Plastic Fantastic !!, a 3D printed DB23 connector (without pins)
DB-25 modified to DB-23 for use on the Amiga Floppy port

The option I use for making it fit is : remove pin 13 and 25 , so pay attention if you do something like this yourself , the bottom row starts with pin nr. 14 , but that will be 13 (because the real 13 has been removed )
Some people leave it at that, and ask you to remove one of the 2 lock nuts on the gate.
I don't like that myself, I choose to modify the housing of the DB25 in such a way that it just fits inside the lock nuts and the plug only fits on the connector in (The correct) way.
A few notes :

You can only use 1 of the 2 screws to fix the plug, the other one is not in the right place.

This photo is a Photoshop edit, to give you a rough idea of what is done to make the plug fit. (the final result may differ from the image)

So my external Gotek's interfaces are always delivered with a modified DB-25 to DB-23 connector.
