Installing a Gotek in a MSX Computer NMS 8255

This weekend I started installing a gotek in my Philips NMS 8255.
The NMS 8255 is a dual drive system, so one of the 2 drives needs to be replaced.
It is (or has been) a road full of difficulties that I will share with you when the project is completed.
You notice almost immediately that the whole concept is a lot less friendly to conversion and expansion than most other systems.

Installing a Gotek in a MSX Computer NMS 8255 - Quest for Information

I've spent more than 5 hours looking for info to get all the questions answered.
I'm a total nitwit with MSX, but still have a number of machines in my collection and so at least one must know the joy of a gotek / Flashfloppy drive

This description is based on my own MSX machine , the NMS 8255

Many Philips (and maybe other brands) machines have a different floppy connector, luckily the 8255 has a standard Shugart Interface.
Installing a Gotek in a MSX is really a piece of cake, it is really a matter of old drive out and new drive in.
However, these systems need host = msx in the FF.CFG to correctly interpret the IMG layout for MSX (*.img is used by many systems as an extension, so this entry), the FF.CFG is in the root of your USB stick.
I simply put the gotek in the place of the old one and rerouted the cables.

disassembling and assembling that MSX was quite a challenge, but that is beyond the scope of this blog.
