How to connect a Gotek Externally to the Amiga.

This Youtube video explains how to connect a Gotek Floppydrive Emulator to your Amiga as DF1:
The video shows that an old external floppy disk drive is reused to house a Gotek Floppydrive Emulator, unfortunately these 3.5 inch housings are not easy more to get.
On the other hand, there are plenty of interfaces available to give the gotek a place outside your Amiga.
By means of a Boot selector that you can build into your amiga you can then use this Gotek Floppydrive Emulator as DF0:
This is a hardware solution that makes the system really use your external drive as DF0:
Building in a boot selector is not very difficult, but some caution is advised.
Check out the video above to see how it works.

Bootselectors and the Gotek Externally to the Amiga for booting from a Gotek

Both the boot selectors and the Interfaces that turn your Gotek Floppydrive Emulator into an external disk drive for your amiga come in many flavors, from the very simple, to the very complex with all kinds of configuration options, jumpers and switches.
Several versions of the boot selector are available from here, both separately and in combination with a Gotek Floppydrive Emulator.
The
same goes for the Interface to use a Gotek Externally to the Amiga as an external disk drive.

By the way, for both (if not all) extensions, connecting/disconnecting your interface, and switching your boot selector is best for the health of your machine when the amiga is turned off!

The CIA 8520's in your amiga are gradually becoming scarcer (and therefore more expensive), by switching off your machine, the chance that they will break due to coupling or switching is virtually nil.
