External Gotek in Amiga design with Rotary, 0.91 Oled display and Buzzer
why an External Gotek in Amiga design with Rotary encoder, a 0.91 Oled display and Buzzer you may ask...
Me too 🙂 , I wanted to make a design that as an external gotek is more in line with the family of amiga computers in wedge format (A500 / A500+ / A600 / A1200).
With those models you often have the gotek on top of or next to the amiga and how nice is it when the design matches the machine itself.
I didn't intend to make an exact copy of the design, it's more inspired by 🙂
If your gotek is going to be used externally, the eye also wants something.
External Gotek in Amiga design with Rotary encoder, a 0.91 Oled display and Buzzer, details :
Amiga design :Â For both the design and the color I have chosen in my design, for something close to the Amiga 500, often the 1200 and the 600 are a bit whiter, at least when they came out.
There is no color that fits thanks to the '50 shades of amiga'
Rotary encoder : The rotary encoder allows you to easily scroll through the images, and in combination with an OLED display it also allows you to browse through directory structures.
Furthermore, the Rotary Encoder also has an eject / insert function, when you press the button, nice if you want to start without booting directly from the disk.
0.91 Oled display : With the help of the Oled Display you have visual support when you start browsing, you see the names of the images and can easily select the file of choice.
Furthermore, the Oled display allows you to browse through folder structures, something that is not possible with the 3digit display.
Buzzer : The buzzer is a nice gimmick that can be of added value especially for retro computer lovers, it provides a true-to-life experience of the disk drives of yesteryear *cough*. The buzzer imitates the sound of the stepper motor and head movements, (at a soft level)
External Gotek in Amiga design, Connecting :
To connect the Gotek externally you need an external floppy interface to connect it to your machine.
For the wedge models, after connecting and booting, the external drive will be available as DF1:
To boot from an external Gotek you need a Bootselector, without a bootselector you can actually only use it as a 2nd drive.
You get the most functionality in combination with one of the boot selectors, of which the switchless boot selector is perhaps the best choice because you don't have to make any cables, switches or holes in your amiga.

I ordered it for my Amiga 600, and it worked great. The buzzer and rotary switch are a real plus, and cabling is minimal and easy to set up. Thanks a lot!
