Absolute Beginners : Amiga 500 Internal IDE Interface options

Amiga 500 Internal IDE Interface with horizontal CF adapter and card
Amiga 500 Internal IDE Interface options, possibilities :

I spent quite some time designing and determining the best footprint for a Gotek.nl IDE interface for your Amiga 500 / 500+.
The reason for this is that there are various revisions of the Amiga 500, all with their own layout, roughly that has led to several different models of IDE Interfaces with each their own pro's and cons.
Both lines are described below, look carefully at what the conditions are to be able to choose the line implement in your Amiga 500 / 500+.

Amiga 500 Internal IDE Interface, Option 1 :

Amiga 500 Internal IDE Interface with a horizontal connector with a directly attached IDE-2-CF, adapter is the most easy to implement option, just plug in and you're ready to go.
Do not hide cables, mill holes or pull wires, just remove the 68000, Amiga 500 Internal IDE Interface in the 68000 socket and the 68000 on top of that (See note 1)
In a standard Amiga 500 / 500+ it fits without any problem (See note 2)
Both keyboard and shielding can simply be put back after placing the Gotek.nl IDE interface (See note 3)

Remarks :

1 ]   Replacing the 68000 is not necessary if you order an IDE interface on which the 68000 is already mounted.

2 ]   The physical fit of the interface can only be guaranteed if a Kickstart switch, Flickerfixer, Turbo card, or memory expansion is not already installed. If this is the case, please contact us.

3 ]   The IDE extension can in some cases just hit the shielding can.
If you want to make sure you have the maximum range of play, you can purchase an IDE interface with a soldered 68000, which gives you around 5mm of extra space.

4 ]    This card will not work with trapdoor memory larger than 512KB

5 ]    This card also works with hard disks, they just can't be powered from the IDE Interface itself.

6 ]    This card can work with Fat95 or Amiga FFS formatted CF cards, each filesystem uses its own bootdisk. (Both bootdisks can be found in the Download Section)

7 ]    The disadvantage of this option is that for exchanging data eg with a PC , the amiga has to be disassembled to get to the Compact Flash, so as a hard disk it is an excellent solution as intermediate media it is better to opt for option 2 to go.

Amiga 500 Internal IDE Interface, Option 2:

Amiga 500 Internal IDE Interface with a vertical (standing) IDE connector that allows you to plug in an ide cable so that you can place an IDE-2-CF adapter (or hard disk) somewhere in your Amiga 500 / 500+.
This option comes standard with +/- 40 CM IDE (See Note A) and power cable so you can use the interface anywhere in your amiga.
That means possibly hiding cables, milling holes or pulling wires, for the rest it is just like with the other option: just remove the 68000, Amiga 500 Internal IDE Interface in the 68000 socket and the 68000 on top (See note B)
In a standard Amiga 500 / 500+ it fits without any problem (See note C)
Both keyboard and cover can be replaced after installing the Gotek.nl IDE interface (See note D)

Remarks :

A ]   I have not tested with cables longer than 40 CM, several comparable interfaces come with the advice not to go above 40 CM, so I have also adhered to that advice for my own interface.

B ]   Replacing the 68000 is not necessary if you order an IDE interface on which the 68000 is already mounted.

C ]   The physical fit of the interface can only be guaranteed if a Kickstart switch, Flickerfixer, Turbo card, or memory expansion is not already installed. If this is the case, please contact us.

D ]   The IDE extension can in some cases just hit the can, if you want to be sure that you have the maximum range of play you can buy an IDE interface with a soldered 68000, which gives you around 5mm extra space.

E ]    This card will not work with trapdoor memory larger than 512KB

F ]    This card also works with hard disks, they just can't get enough power from the IDE Interface itself.

G ]    This card can work with Fat95 or Amiga FFS formatted CF cards, each filesystem uses its own bootdisk. (Both bootdisks can be found in the Download Section)

The    advantage of this option is that for exchanging data eg with a PC, the Compact Flash card is more easily accessible, you can choose eg Mounting on the trapdoor cover, lead the interface on the left out of the expansion cover, or on the right mill a slot next to the floppy so that the card is easy to reach.

Amiga 500 Internal IDE Interface, Option 3:

Amiga 500 Internal 44 Pin IDE Interface with a horizontal connector with a directly attached IDE-2-CF, adapter is the most easy to implement option, just plug in and you're ready to go.

Amiga 500 / 500+ IDE Interface 44pin (68000 Socket)

Remarks :

A ]
The physical fit of the interface can only be guaranteed if a Kickstart switch, Flickerfixer, Turbo card, or memory expansion is not already installed. If this is the case, please contact us.

B ]   The IDE extension can in some cases just hit the can, if you want to be sure that you have the maximum range of play you can buy an IDE interface with a soldered 68000, which gives you around 5mm extra space.

C ]    This card may or may not work with trapdoor memory larger than 512KB

D ]    This card also works with hard disks, they just can't get enough power from the IDE Interface itself.

E ]    This card can work with Fat95 or Amiga FFS formatted CF cards, each filesystem uses its own bootdisk. (Both bootdisks can be found in the Download Section)

Amiga 500 Internal IDE Interface, Option 4:

Amiga 500 Internal 44 Pin IDE Interface with a directly attached 1 GB DOM, is  a very easy to implement option, just plug in and you're ready to go.
This DOM version of this interface is specially designed for this purpose.
No cables, milling holes or pulling wires, just remove the 68000, Amiga 500 Internal 44 Pin DOM in the 68000 socket and the 68000 on top of that (See note 1)
In a standard Amiga 500 / 500+ it fits without any problem (See note 2)
Both keyboard and shielding can simply be put back after placing the Gotek.nl IDE interface (See note 3)

Shop : Amiga 500 / 500+ IDE Interface 1 GB DOM Kit (68000 Socket), including a preinstalled 1GB DOM

Remarks :

A ]   The physical fit of the interface can only be guaranteed if a Kickstart switch, Flickerfixer, Turbo card, or memory expansion is not already installed.

Amiga 500 Internal IDE Interface, Option 5:

An external version of the IDE Interface is now available for the Amiga 500 / 500+.
- Eliminates the need to open your amiga.
- It makes it easy to exchange data between PC (WINUAE) and Amiga since the CF card is easy accesible.
- Connect an optical drive without having to route cables from inside them amiga (needs separate power for optical / hard drives)
- Comes in a nice amiga 500 alike design

More information on the External IDE interfaces for the Amiga 500 / 500+ can be found here .

External IDE Interface for Amiga 500 / 500+ including a housing in Amiga 500 look

Option 2 :

Fixation on the trapdoor, by means of 2
screws or double-sided tape.
Not possible if you have a Full size Memory
expansion such as the A501.

Easily accessible from the outside, but
you have to mill a hole for
the CF card. (Switch does not belong to
The IDE Interface)

The simplest solution is, you
don't have to saw or drill on your
'precious', and yet the CF card is easy
to reach from outside.

Amazing internal IDE solution, no cables needed

Purchased this a while ago and it works straight out of the box.<br />
Just place it between the CPU and the motherboard.<br />
No cables needed, i also bought the kick 3.1+ and am able to boot from the CF right away.
