AMiDi, the Amiga Midi interface, introduction

Unlike the Atari, the Amiga does not have standard Midi connections, a missed opportunity as it turned out.
One of the things where Atari had a big market advantage, was support for Midi.

Midi (Musical Instruments Digital Interface) is a standard that allows electronic (musical) instruments to be connected and used as input/output devices.

AMiDi, the Amiga Midi interface, Theory

The Midi protocol is a variation on the standard serial protocol and works with data code in which encrypted commands are sent, such as "select instrument XX", "play note YY" and "add vibrato". It is a kind of electronic 'music notation'. How the sound ultimately sounds depends on the synthesizer  or sound card used.
Many electronic musical instruments consist of a user interface, for example a keyboard and a  synthesizer . MIDI OUT makes it possible to route the commands from a keyboard to another synthesizer or other MIDI device, which receives them at MIDI IN.
It is possible to link multiple Midi Devices ( Daisy Chaining )

AMiDi, the Amiga Midi interface,  connections

The Amiga Midi Interface has the following connections:

Midi In:   Connect the output of a Midi instrument to this port, thus sending data from your instrument to the Amiga.

Midi Out: Connect the input of a Midi instrument to this port, thus sending data from your Amiga to your instrument.

Midi Thru: Connect the input of a 2nd Midi instrument to this port. The data provided via the Midi in port is immediately sent unchanged to the Midi Thru port.

The Amiga interface is an existing design, open hardware created by RetronicDesign
The project page on GitHub can be found here .
As for the case, that is my own design and is a two piece, easy to open and close design.

Inside there are 2 LEDs, to indicate Midi in, and Midi out activity, through (an adjustment to) the white lid you can easily see the activity through the top if you prefer.
